Sacred Heart exploded with 9 runs in the 4th inning and Kobi Valchar held Shiner St. Paul scoreless as Sacred Heart got a 13-0 run rule to advance to the Division V State Championship.  Sacred Heart will play Ovilla Christian on Saturday at 10:00 AM.

Sacred Heart scored a run in the first on a Valchar RBI single and then added another in the second on an Emerson Harvey RBI single.  But they erupted in the 4th inning.  The Indians scored 9 runs on 6 hits and were aided by 4 St. Paul errors.  Tyler Hawkins had a 2 RBI single in the inning and Brady Haas had two singles in the inning that saw 14 batters come to the plate.  Sacred Heart scored two more runs in the 5th to take the 13-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Valchar was busy keeping St. Paul from scoring.  He only allowed only 5 baserunners – 2 hits, 2 BB, and 1 HBP – and only one baserunner reached 3B.  He struck out 5 batters.  Valchar was named the THSB Player of the Game.  He also was 2-4 at the plate.  “Today I just went out there on the mound not trying to throw strikeouts,” Valchar explained.  “I just pitched and let my team work and our defense showed up and played well.”

Sacred Heart Head Coach Mark Noska also commented on the game.  “Both teams are very competitive.  St. Paul is well coached.  Some things went our way early and then it just multiplied.  You never know what to expect when we play each other.  But we put the ball in play today, we played good defense and out pitcher started with filling up the strike zone.”
