Houston Baptist Advances to TAPPS Division II Championship Game on Big Hits

Houston Second Baptist had only 5 hits in the game but they came at big times, securing a 10-4 win over Lutheran South Academy, knocking Lutheran South out of its chance to win a 4th consecutive state title. Second Baptist advances to the TAPPS Division II championship game where they will meet the winner of the Fort Worth Christian and The Brook Hill School contest.

Second Baptist started the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd. After one out, Lutheran South walked the next 3 batters. With the bases full, Andrew Rivers came up and got Second Baptist’s first hit of the game, a double that scored two runs. Tommy Willis then scored on a ground out and Second Baptist had a 3-0 lead. Second Baptist scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first without a hit, helped by 4 walks and a wild pitch.

Lutheran South began climbing back into the game with a run in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th, cutting the Second Baptist lead to 5-4. Second Baptist responded though. They started off the inning with back to back doubles by Luke Pettite and Turner Murdock and then scored another run on an error. Second Baptist then added to their lead in the 6th, scoring 3 more runs, two on another double by Murdock.

Pettite held Lutheran South scoreless in the 6th and 7th inning in relief.

Turner Murdock finished the game 2-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. He also walked and scored a run. He was named the THSB Player of the Game.
