Houston Second Baptist Captures TAPPS Division II State Championship Title

The Houston Second Baptist Eagles scored 11 runs on 11 hits to capture the 2022 TAPPS Division II Baseball State Championship with a convincing 11-5 win over Brook Hill. The State Title is the 6th TAPPS Baseball State Championship for Second Baptist.

Brook Hill took the early lead in the championship game scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st on two errors and a ground out RBI by Grayson Murry. And Second Baptist was having trouble getting anything going against Murry. Through 3 innings, Murry held the Eagles scoreless on 1 hit with 4 Ks.

But the Second Baptist bats got hot in the 4th inning. Three straight hits, a single by Noah Weisser, an RBI triple by Eli Marrero and an RBI Single by Tommy Willis cut the Brook Hill lead to 3-2. With two outs in the 4th inning, Second Baptist loaded the bases and got a Luke Pettitte double to centerfield scoring two runs, giving Second Baptist a 4-3 lead, their first lead of the game. And they were still not finished. Turner Murdock singled in two more runs, Marrero drove in another run and Second Baptist scored on a delayed steal, putting up 8 runs in the inning.

Luke PettiteBrook Hill scored a run in the 5th and one in the 6th to make it an 8-5 ballgame. But Second Baptist responded with a run in the 6th on a passed ball and two more in the top of the 7th on a JD Crisp triple and a Leighton Reddy Sacrifice Fly. Brook Hill was unable to get anything across in the last 2 innings and Second Baptist got the victory 11-5.

Luke Pettitte was named the THSB Championship Game Player of the Game. He was 2-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a run scored.
