Lake Country Christian Advances to TAPPS Division III Championship Game with 7-3 Victory
admin | May 20th, 2022Lake Country Christian pitcher Cason Davenport overcame a rough start to lead his team to a 7-3 victory over Lubbock Trinity Christian in the TAPPS Division III Semifinal game. They now advance to play Bay Area Christian in the championship game tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
Davenport got off to a rocky start in the top of 1st. He walked the first Trinity Christian batter and struck out the second. He then hit the next 3 batters forcing in one run. Davenport was able to strike out the last 2 batters to get out of the inning with little damage.
Down 1-0, Davenport’s teammates responded at their turn to bat. An RBI single by Landon Fuller and a 2 RBI single by Jackson Nelson gave Lake Country Christian a 3-1 lead.
Davenport held Trinity Christian scoreless for the next two innings adding 2 more strikeouts. But then he hit a rough spot again in the 4th. Another hit by pitch and 3 singles allowed Trinity Christian to score 2 more runs and tie the game at 3-3.
Once again Lake Country Christian responded. After two walks, TJ Mynyk singled in two runs and Lake Country picked up another run on an error to take a 6-3 lead.
Davenport once again rebounded from a rough inning to retire 6 of the next 7 batters, shutting down Trinity Christian in the 5th and 6th. Meanwhile, Lake Country Christian picked up another run when Nelson scored on a wild pitch. Luke Compton came in to pitch the 7th and finish the game.
Davenport finished the game with 6 IP, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 1 BB, and 8 Ks. He was named the THSB Player of the Game.
