London Green picked up a big RBI in the top of the 7th and Connor Neuman held Corpus Christi Moody to 2 runs as Grapevine pulled out a big 3-2 win to advance to the State Championship Game for the second consecutive year.

Grapevine scored first in the contest getting 2 runs in the 2nd on a Ryan Drake RBI double and a London Green RBI single. Neuman kept Moody in check for 4 innings before Moody got a run on a Sandoval RBI single in the 5th, cutting Grapevine’s lead to 2-1.

Moody tied the game in the 6th when Alec Martinez hit a triple in the right center gap, scoring courtesy runner Richard Alonzo. Neuman got a strikeout to end the 6th inning, keeping the game at 2-2.

In the top of the 7th, Jonathan Hearn got an infield single to set up Green’s heroics. Green hit a pitch in the right centerfield gap allowing Hearn to score from 1B.

In the bottom of the 7th Neuman, got a strikeout to start the inning but an error and a walk had the tying and winning runs on base when Neuman hit the pitch count limit. Boone Montgomery came in and got a strikeout and fly out to give Grapevine a 3-2 win over #1 ranked Moody.

London Green – “The pitch was a cutter high and away and we had a hit and run on so I was just trying to hit it to right field and hoped it found a spot to land.”

Connor Neuman – “I’ve been in big games before and so I know you can’t get too high in this game and you can’t get too low. You can’t get on yourself, you just have to stay in the medium. Not one inning was easy tonight. I had to fight every pitch against these guys.”
