Midland Classical Comeback Gives Them 2nd Consecutive TAPPS Division IV State Title
admin | May 18th, 2022Midland Classical staged another comeback in a 13-6 win over Central Texas Christian to capture their 2nd consecutive TAPPS Division IV State Championship.
Midland Classical rallied back from an 8-4 deficit Tuesday evening in the state semifinal game. And they were in a similar hole today with Central Texas Christian. Central Texas Christian scored 5 runs in the first two innings on only one base hit. Dylan Degenhardt had an RBI single in the 1st inning but Central Texas Christian was also aided by 4 walks and 6 Midland Classical errors to take the early 5-0 lead.
But the comeback kids at Midland Classical had their own rally in the bottom of the 3rd. Led by 2 doubles by Reagan Layh and 4 other hits in the inning and capitalizing on a couple errors, Midland Classical piled up 8 runs to take an 8-5 lead.
Central Texas Christian made it 8-6 in the top of the 4th but Paul McMillan came in after that and held the Lions scoreless for the next 3 innings. Meanwhile, Midland Classical added to their lead scoring a run in the 4th, a run in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th.
Reagan Layh had 3 of Midland Classical’s 11 hits. For the day, he was 3-5 with 2 doubles, scoring one run and had one RBI. For his performance and his role in the big 8-run 3rd inning, Reagan Layh was named the TAPPS Division IV Championship Player of the Game.
