Midland High’s Barry Russell Retires

Midland High’s Head Baseball Coach Barry Russell is retiring after 22 seasons at Midland High and 33 years as a Head Baseball Coach. He finishes his career with a 736-356-2 coaching record and ranked 4th among all active Texas High School Baseball coaches in career wins.

Russell has put Midland High on the Texas baseball map taking them to the playoffs in 20 of his 22 seasons with 11 District Championships, 2 State Tournament Appearances and a 5A State Championship in 2001. He was 81-47 in playoff games for Midland High. Russell was also the Head Baseball Coach at Victoria Stroman for 7 years and at LaPryor for 4 years.

Russell is the current President of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and will serve one more year in that role. His future plans includes being the Director of Baseball for D-BAT Permian Basin, which is projected to open in October.
