Interview

Describe what’s it been like playing for Pearland and going to the state tournament championship game two years in a row?

I’ve been very blessed to be able to compete with a great group of guys. Not every high school has the phenomenal talent we have had at Pearland. So being able to go up since my freshman year and play with these guys has been very fortunate for me. We had a lot of studs last year, the year before and now this year. So the best I could say is I’m very thankful for it.

So you guys graduated a lot last year. What’s going to be the challenges for the Pearland team this year?

I think the biggest challenges is just to keep going. The last two years we go to the state tournament and get to that last game and kind of just shut down. So it’s definitely an achievable challenge where we can overcome that. Especially with the friendships we’ve built and the family we’ve created. So the biggest challenge to me is just to finish. And I believe it’s very possible for us to do it.

What do you like about this year’s team?

What I like about this year’s team, like the other years, is just the friendships we have. I mean, there’s never a dull moment with the team. We’re outside, hanging out with each other, outside of baseball, in baseball. We’re having as much fun as we can, which I really think builds a better and stronger team. So I think the chemistry is one of my favorite things about it.

Your high school career on the mound is 18-0. How aware are you of that?

I don’t think about it too much. Me and my catcher, Cade Adams, talk about it sometimes, like as a joke. But I don’t think about it too much. It doesn’t really add any pressure, I will continue just going out there and believing that my stuff can get the job done. And it is also the trust I have that my teammates can get the job done on the offensive side.

Why Texas A&M?

Well, the whole coaching change was really hectic. I followed along with it. But when I saw Coach Earley come back, and I saw all the guys around him support him, and hearing guys say “that’s the guy you want.” It just drew me that way. I believe he’s going to make you into the best possible baseball player you can be. And also, like how I said about the high school friendships and the chemistry we’ve built, A&M has such a phenomenal family atmosphere and that’s something I definitely want to be a part of.
