The Ovilla Christian Eagles grabbed an early lead and held off a 7th inning Christian Life Prep rally to win 4-3, giving them a place in the Division V championship game on Saturday morning.  They will play the winner of the 2nd Semifinal Game between Hallettsville Sacred Heart and Shiner St. Paul.

Ovilla Christian scored 2 runs in the first inning.  Lucas Seymore and Nate Nunes singled and Caleb Bjerke loaded the bases by an error on the SS.  With two outs, MJ Langford and Parker Navarro drew bases loaded walks to score courtesy runner Nicholas Lassiter and Nunes, giving Ovilla Christian a 2-0 lead.

Eagles pitcher Seymore held Christian Life Prep at bay for 3 innings but got in a little trouble in the 4th.  Brock Robbins started off the inning with a base on balls and made it all the way to 3B on a Caleb Turner single.  David Wardlaw then laid down a good bunt on a safety squeeze to score Robbins to make it 2-1.  Ovilla Catcher caught a foul ball to end the threat and hold the Eagles’ lead.

In the bottom of the 4th, Ovilla picked up two more runs on good bunts that put pressure on the Christian Life Prep defense.  Parker Navarro laid down a nice bunt towards 3rd base and was on safely via a wild throw.  He advanced to 2B on a wild pickoff throw and then scored when twin brother Tucker Navarro laid down another nice bunt that forced another wild throw to first.  Tucker Navarro then scored on a Jake Misemer single to give Ovilla Christian a 4-1 lead.

Christian Life Prep cut it to 4-2 in the top of the 5th when Cayden Beard scored on a Samuel Wolfe ground out.  The score stayed at 4-2 until the top of the 7th.  With one out, Christian Life Prep loaded the bases and scored a run when Robert Matteson drew a base on balls, making it a 4-3 Ovilla Christian lead.   Christian Life Prep then tried to steal home with the next batter but the runner was tagged out by Catcher Seymore and Nunes tagged out the runner going to 3rd to end the ballgame.

Ovilla Christian Head Coach Greg Hayes commented, “It was a great ballgame between two good teams and it got really tight there at the end.  They were trying to make something happen and our senior catcher Lucas Seymore made a great back-handed tag at the plate.  And then he got the ball down so we could get the other runner.  Just great defense all around.”

Sophomore SS Nate Nunes was named the THSB Player of the Game.  He was 3-4 at the plate with one run scored and played solid defense with 6 Put Outs and 5 Assists.
