Shiner St. Paul Advances to Division 5 Championship Game

Shiner St Paul continued their dominance over district foe Bracken Christian this season with a 7-3 win, this time in the TAPPS Division V State Semifinal. With the win, St. Paul moves to the Division V Championship Game where they will face the winner of the Ft. Worth Covenant Classical/Weatherford Christian game.

Shiner St. Paul and Bracken Christian both played in District 4 this season. St. Paul won both district contests (4-0, 14-2) and finished as the #1 Seed. Bracken Christian was the #2 seed out of District 4.

St. Paul opened the scoring in the first inning when SS Jackson Ulcak doubled in two runs. The Cardinals picked up 2 more runs in the 2nd on a bases loaded walk and a Nate Boedecker Sacrifice Fly.

Zak Johnson kept Bracken Christian at bay for 3 innings but the Warriors picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to cut the St. Paul lead to 4-3. But that was all the Warriors would be able to get for the rest of the game. Zak Johnson pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 earned runs and struck out 13 and was the winning pitcher. Nate Boedeker came in to pitch in the 7th and picked up the Save.

St. Paul picked up three more runs in the 6th led by an Ulcak 2 RBI single. Ulcak was 2-2 for the day with 4 RBIs. He was named the THSB Player of the Game.

St. Paul was outhit by Bracken Christian 8-4 but was helped by 9 BB and Ulcak’s timely 2 out hits.
