Temple Christian’s Wiggins Shuts Out Lubbock Christian 4-0 in Division IV Semifinal

Tanner Wiggins remained undefeated this year with a great performance on the mound, shutting out the Lubbock Christian Eagles as Temple Christian won 4-0 in the TAPPS Division IV Semifinal.  They will face Northland Christian tomorrow in the Division IV Championship Game.

Wiggins gave up 3 hits and no runs on 14 strikeouts and only 1 BB.  He was dominant most of the game and only got in trouble in the sixth inning, striking out the batter for the final out with a runner on 3B to end that threat.

Temple Christian managed to get four runs on 8 hits in the game.  They scored the first run of the game in the third inning when Wilson Russell singled home David Smith.  The Eagles added two more runs in the fourth on a Smith RBI single and a Wiggins RBI double.  They pick up their fourth run of the night in the 5th on a Landry Lamas single that scored Rylan Alaniz.

As well as an outstanding pitching performance, Wiggins also was 2-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate.  He was named the THSB Player of the Game.  “My fastball was my dominant pitch in the first inning and I was having trouble with my slider,” Wiggins explained.  “But after the first inning, I think my slider became my dominant pitch.  Then I could mix in some other pitches like my change up to get a ground ball or even a miss swinging.”  Wiggins moved to 12-0 on the season and finished his senior year on the mound with 129 strikeouts.

Temple Christian Head Coach J.T. Herak also commented on Wiggins success.  “Tanner was outstanding.  Composed. Relaxed.  You couldn’t ask anymore out of him.  He works hard.  And he’s such a humble kid.  Players love him.  Coaches love him.  He did what he needed to do tonight.”
