Jake Thompson Baseball Card

Jake Thompson was a RHP/SS who played for Rockwall-Heath from 2009 to 2012. In his senior season, Thompson was 12-1 with an 0.73 ERA and 165 Strikeouts in 89.2 innings. He also had a .448 Batting Average with 9 Home Runs, 12 Doubles and 40 RBIs. Thompson was named the 10-4A MVP for the 3rd year in a row and was selected the 4A Player of the Year. Baseball America named him a First-Team High School All-American.

As dominant as Thompson was on the mound in his senior year, his bigger numbers came at the plate during his junior season. He batted .504 with 15 Home Runs, 17 Doubles, 45 Runs, 58 RBIs and had a .624 OBP. On the mound, he was 12-3 with a 1.90 ERA and 131 Strikeouts. He was named the 10-4A MVP for the second year in a row and was selected to the 4A All-State Team as a 1st Team First Baseman.

As a sophomore, Thompson hit .444 with 20 Doubles, 7 Home Runs and 54 RBIs. He picked up 9 wins for the year with a 1.52 ERA and 108 Strikeouts. He was named the 10-4A Co-MVP and selected to the 4A All-State Team as a 1st Team 1B.

During his freshman season, Thompson was named the 10-4A Underclassmen of the Year. In four years at Heath, Thompson had 39 Wins, 453 Strikeouts and a 1.49 ERA. He had a career .424 Batting Average with 58 Doubles, 38 Home Runs and 188 RBIs.

Thompson signed a National Letter of Intent with Texas Christian University. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2nd Round of the MLB Draft. He signed with the Tigers for a $532,000 signing bonus.

Thompson played two years in the Tigers Minor League system and was a Florida State League All-Star in 2014. In July of 2014, Thompson was traded to the Texas Rangers. Thompson was selected a Texas League All-Star in 2015 and was then traded to the Phillies on July 31, 2015. In 2016, he won the International League Most Valuable Pitcher Award.

Thompson was called up by the Phillies on August 6, 2016. He picked up his first win on August 12. He finished his rookie season with a 3-6 record, a 3.88 ERA and 35 Strikeouts in 10 starts. Thompson split time between the Phillies and Lehigh Valley over the next two years and was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on August 14, 2018.

Thompson signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels this past January. In 22 appearances in the major leagues, he has a career record of 7-8 with a 4.87 ERA and 81 Strikeouts.
