THSB All-Decade Team: Jovan Hernandez, C/3B/RHP, Rockwall-Heath, 2012

Jovan Hernandez

Jovan Hernandez was a C/3B/RHP who graduated in 2012 from Rockwall Heath. As a senior, Hernandez hit .413 with 11 Doubles, 5 Home Runs, 37 RBIs, a .526 OBP and a .634 Slugging Percentage. He was 10-1 with a 1.95 ERA, 52 Strikeouts and 2 Saves. He was named the 2nd Team Catcher on the 4A All-State Team. He signed a National Letter of Intent with Navarro College.

In the 4A State Championship Game, Hernandez was 2-4 with 3 RBIs, including a 2-run home run, and was the winning pitcher, giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5 in a 79-pitch complete game. He was named the Championship Game MVP.

As a junior, Hernandez had 16 Doubles, 11 Home Runs, 41 Runs and 53 RBIs. On the mound, he was 11-1 with a 1.32 ERA and 84 Strikeouts in 79 innings. He was named the 10-4A Pitcher of the Year and a 3rd Team Pitcher on the 4A All-State Team.

Hernandez had a 41-game hitting streak coming into his junior season. He got a hit in the first game of the year to extend the hitting streak to 42 games but was held hitless in the next game. The 42-game hitting streak gave him a tie for the longest hitting streak in Texas High School Baseball history.

Hernandez had an incredible sophomore season. He batted .514 with 19 Doubles, 11 Home Runs, 64 RBIs, and .920 Slugging Percentage and finished the season with a 41-game hitting streak. He was 7-0 on the mound. He was named the 10-4A Offensive MVP, the Sports Day Player of the Year, and to the 4A All-State Team as a 1st Team 3B.

After graduation, Hernandez played at Navarro College. In his freshman season, he hit .316 with 11 Doubles, 3 Home Runs, 38 RBIs and 39 Runs. He was named to the 2013 All-East Conference Team as a 1st Team OF. As a sophomore, he hit .290 with 10 Doubles, 1 Home Run, 18 RBIs, and 21 Runs.

After JUCO, Hernandez played for Georgetown College in Kentucky. In his junior season, he hit .271 with 5 2Bs and 20 RBIs. In his senior season, Hernandez hit .362 with 5 2Bs, 1 HR and 20 RBIs. He was named to the All Mid-South Conference 2nd Team.
