USA Baseball Tryouts Coming Up

 admin  |    May 3rd, 2018

USA Baseball Tryouts are just around the corner and Texas High School Baseball Players should take advantage of this opportunity to make one of the regional teams through the National Team Identification Series (NTIS) and develop as a young baseball player.

Texas will field 2 Regional Teams with 6 age groups in each region. There will be a NTIS North Texas Team and a NTIS South Texas Team. The 6 age groups are 17U, 16U, 15U, 14U, 13U and 11U.

Tryouts will be held in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Lubbock, Tyler, College Station, Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Corpus Christi. Tryouts will be as early as mid-May through early July.

These tryouts will be an individual player combine style format and workouts will include 60 yd run (30 yd for younger ages), defensive skills assessment, batting practice, home to 1B times, pop times and arm velocities. Pitchers will perform a 20-25 pitch bullpen as well as pitchers fielding practice (PFP) and other team oriented defensive drills. NO LIVE GAMES will occur during these identification tryouts.

Players who make one of the Regional Teams will travel to Cary, NC for a 4-day NTIS tournament event in July and will compete against the 15 other USA Baseball NTIS Regional Teams.

From the final NTIS event, USA Baseball will invite a minimum of 66 players to future National Team Trials, National Team Development Program, and Tournament of Stars opportunities with the ultimate goal of being selected to represent our country as part of Team USA in 2018.

THSB players, this is a great opportunity to represent USA Baseball in regional events and possibly national events. The potential for great strides in your development as a baseball player is huge.

In 2017, Joseph Menefee, a senior from George Ranch, played on the 17U USA Baseball National Team. Tanner Witt, a sophomore at Bellaire Episcopal, and Rawley Hector, a freshman from Anna, both played on the 2017 15U USA Baseball National Team.
