Weatherford Christian Holds On for 7-5 Win in TAPPS Division 5 Semi-Final

Weatherford Christian exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 1st and then held on to get the 7-5 victory over Covenant Classical in the 2nd Division 5 State Semifinal Game. Weatherford Christian will now meet Shiner St Paul in the Division 5 State Championship Game Wednesday morning.

The Weatherford Christian Lions scored their 5 runs on an error, a 2 RBI single by Blake Heid and another 2 RBI single by Ethan Smith. The Lions picked up another run in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single by Smith to take a 6-0 lead.

But Covenant Classical did not go away easy. They scored a run in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd to make it 6-2. After a groundout RBI by Weatherford Christian’s Smith in the 4th, Covenant Classical continued to chip away at the lead scoring 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to make it a 7-5 game.

But Smith, who had taken over the game on the mound in the 5th, was able to hold Covenant Classical scoreless in the 6th and 7th to give the Weatherford Christian Lions the win. Smith was also helped in the 7th when, with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, Weatherford Christian employed the hidden ball trick and tagged out the runner at 2nd.

Ethan Smith was named the THSB Player of the Game. He was 2-3 with 4 RBIs, a Run and a BB. He also pitched the last 3 innings giving up only one run.
