#1 Sinton Routs Celina in 4A State Semifinal Game
admin | Jun 9th, 2022For the second year in a row, Sinton came into the 4A State Tournament ranked #1 but this year they had more success scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first and shutting out Celina for a 9-0 victory. Sinton will now face Argyle in the 4A State Championship game tomorrow.
After a Marco Gonzales walk and a Blake Mitchell single, Rylan Galvan singled in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Two batters later, Canon Chester also had an RBI single to make it 2-0. Rene Galvan then walked with the bases loaded to make it 3-0. Aidan McCoy had an RBI single, Gonzales walked with the bases loaded and Rene Galvan scored on a wild pitch as Sinton scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st.
Sinton added another run in the the 2nd when Rylan Galvan doubled and then later scored on a wild pitch. Sinton picked up more runs in the 5th when Mitchell doubled in 2 runs, giving them a 9-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was holding the Celina offense at bay pitching a complete game and holding them scoreless. Mitchell gave up 3 hits, 0 runs with 7 Ks and 1 BB. Being a reliever most of the district season, this was his first start in a while. “I came out and was ready to compete,” Mitchell commented on the start. “I was able to establish my fastball early and had good command of all my pitches.”
Mitchell was name the Texas High School Baseball Player of the Game.
