6A State Championship: Cy Ranch 3 Arlington Martin 0

Pitching and defense is what coaches often harp on and true to the coaches’ preaching, pitching and defense led Cy Ranch to a 3-0 win over Arlington Martin to claim the 6A State Baseball Championship.

Championship Game MVP Brent Hebert shut out Martin for 5 innings on 5 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Hebert’s two strikeouts both came at critical moments. Tyler Bielamowicz picked up the save shutting out Martin in the final two innings.

But it was the defense that really shined today as the Cy Ranch fielders made all the routine plays and several spectacular plays that kept Martin from gaining any momentum offensively. Right Fielder Bielamowicz, SS Ryan Leftwich and 2B Masen Hibbeler all made web gem plays during the game.

Cy Ranch scored their first run in the top of the 1st as Bielamowicz led off with a single and later scored on a Marshall Skinner groundout. In the 3rd Elijah MacNamee singled and advanced to 3rd on a Skinner single and scored on a mishandled ball in the outfield, giving Cy Ranch a 2-0 lead. The 3rd run came in the 5th on a Hayden Evans double and a MacNamee RBI single.

Martin threatened twice getting runners on 1st and 2nd with one out in the first inning. But Hebert got an infield pop up and a strikeout to end that threat. In the 5th, Martin had runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs but Hebert struck out the next batter and catcher Skinner threw out a base runner attempting to steal 2nd to stop that opportunity.

With the win, Cy Ranch wins their 2nd State Championship in 4 years. They finished the season 31-6.
