Matt Villanueva was almost unhittable and Claude gave Anson too many gifts, allowing the Anson Tigers to pick up an 11-1 run-rule victory in 6 innings in a Region 1 Quarterfinal match. Anson had only 6 hits but also were recipients of 14 BBs and several errors.

Anson did take advantage of the walks and errors but they were not in need of much help as Villanueva shut down the Claude offense attack. Villanueva gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 BB while striking out 14. The lone run came in the top of the 1st when Tate Wilkerson hit a long fly ball that left fielder Jacob Nava lost in the sun allowing Logan Johnson to score from 1st.

James Flores was 3-4 for the night and knocked in an RBI with each single including the run that secured that run rule victory. Villanueva was officially 2-4 at the plate with a single and a double but reached base all five at bats with a walk, error and fielder’s choice.
