Brock vs Diboll

The Brock Eagles snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat in the bottom of the seventh winning 7-6 against the Diboll Lumberjacks.

Top ranked Brock took on #7 ranked Diboll. Brock started pitcher Tristan Boedecker (11-2) and Diboll started Coby DeJesus (8-1). Diboll hitting first, got the scoring started when Carson Morales hit a Sac Fly to center field to score Coby DeJesus who had led the inning off with a base hit. Boedecker would strike out Coby’s little brother Isaac DeJesus to end the top of the first. Then Brock responded in the bottom half. Tyler Moody led off with a single to left, Sawyer Strosnider then beat out an infield hit to second. After a E6 that loaded the bases, Cam Harris ripped a double to right center to score two. Then with back-to-back sac flies from Luke Stills and Ian Fuchs the Eagles score 4 in the bottom of the 1st.

In the bottom of the second, DeJesus got two quick outs on weak grounders to first, then Tyler Moody singled to right and with 2 outs, Sawyer Strosnider hits a routine fly ball to right, but it was lost in the sun for a stand-up triple and an RBI. After two complete Brock led 4-1.

Diboll got it rolling again in the top of the third. Carson Morales doubled to left center, then Ty Roman followed with a double to right center scoring Morales. Isaac DeJesus then singled and Rey Arrellano walked. Lead-off hitter Coby DeJesus then singled to center making it 5-4 Brock. Brock pitcher, Tristan Boedecker, then ended the threat with back to back strikeouts.

In the bottom of the third, Diboll’s Dejesus worked his way out of a jam. After an E4, the Lumberjacks turn a crazy 1-4-6-3 double play. The ground ball from Brock’s Luke Stills grazed pitchers DeJesus glove but kept a straight trajectory to the second baseman Rey Arrellano who then turned the rare double play.

With Brock leading in the top of the 4th, Brock brings in reliever Dusty Baker. Baker retires 9 Lumberjacks in a row with fly ball outs and 3 K’s. Going into the bottom of the 6th, Brock still led 5-4. Diboll’s Coby DeJesus pitching into the bottom of the sixth, had retired 10 of the last 11 hitters when Luke Stills led off with a stand up double to deep left center. After a walk and a single by Gavin Boedecker that loaded the bases, Diboll brought in Gabe Smith in relief. He struck out PH Wyatt Albritton then got Cooper Massey to fly out and lead-off hitter Moody to ground out getting Diboll out of a huge bases loaded no out jam.

Diboll took the lead in the top of the 7th. With Baker still pitching, Gabe Smith singles, Carson Morales walked, then another RBI single from Ty Roman tied the game at 5. Isaac DeJesus then singled in the go ahead run and Diboll headed into the bottom half of the seventh clinging to a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brock’s Sawyer Strosnider led off with a hard-hit single to first that bounced off of the fielder’s glove. But on the next pitch he was thrown out trying to steal second. Smith then walked the next two batters and Luke Stills singled to load the bases. The next hitter, Ian Fuchs, struck out for the second out. Gavin Boedecker, who had a single in the 6th, then hit a catchable fly ball to right field. Riley Sarmiento got underneath it, but the ball appeared to hit the heal of his glove and dropped to the ground for the E9.  Both of the walked batters scored, and Brock walked away with a 7-6 win.

The THSB player of the game is Brock’s Sawyer Strosnider. Hitting in the 2-hole, he went 3-4 with 2 singles and a triple with 1 run and 1 RBI. As well as Sawyer hit today, he was disappointed about being thrown out at second base after leading off the seventh inning with a base hit. “I felt the tag on my lower leg, but I got to the bag before he tagged me”.

Sawyer Strosnider and his Brock Eagles will take on London tomorrow at Dell Diamond for the State Championship Final. Game time is at 9am.
