Laredo Alexander Coach Mario Garcia Retiring from Coaching

Laredo Alexander Head Baseball Coach Mario Garcia is retiring from coaching after 15 years of being the Baseball Coach for the Alexander Bulldogs. He will continue to teach at Alexander.

Coach Garcia became Alexander’s first Head Baseball Coach in 1994 and coached there from 1995-2001. He led them to the playoffs in his 2nd season there, to the Regional Finals in 1998 and then to the State Tournament in 1999, losing to Duncanville in the State Semifinal. After the 2001 season, Coach Garcia took a break for several years and came back as Head Baseball Coach in 2008. He led Alexander to the Regional Finals in 2011 and 2012 and back to the State Tournament this year. Under Coach Garcia, Alexander has made the playoffs in 14 of his 15 years, played in the Regional Finals 5 times and made to the State Tournament twice. 29-6A has been one of the top districts in the State over the last 5 years, having had a representative in the Region 4 Finals 5 years in a row. He is retiring with 316 career wins in the 15 seasons.

His final year has several memorable moments. Earlier in the year, Coach Garcia reached the 300 win plateau. Making a trip to the State Tournament in his final season is also a big highlight for the season. And later this week, Coach Garcia will help coach the 5A/6A South All-Star team of which his son, Chipper Garcia, is on the team.
