THSB Player Profile: Matthew Thompson, Sr, OF/SS, Cy Ranch

Matthew Thompson is a 6’3″, 185 lb OF/SS for Cy Ranch out of class 6A.  Thompson is committed to play college ball for Texas A&M University.

Thompson has been an Under Armour All-American three time in his three high school seasons.  As a freshman, he was a member of the third team and the past two years has been selected as a first-team member.  He was recognized as a third-team all-state pitcher by the TSWA this past season.

Cy Ranch, which was ranked inside the top 25 nationally, finished the season with a trip to the state tournament.

 

In his junior season, Thompson had 32 hits in 106 plate appearances for a batting average of .301.  Thompson had a total of 8 extra base hits, including 7 doubles and 1 home run.  He knocked in 24 RBI and scored 21 runs.  On the mound, he picked up 5 wins, struck out 87 batters and had an ERA of 2.38.

In his sophomore season, Thompson had 7 hits in 22 at-bats for an average of .318.  He had one double, drove in 2 runs and scored 10. He picked up 4 wins on the mound, struck out 46 batters and had an ERA of 1.61.

In his freshman season, Thompson had 4 hits in 12 plate appearances for a .333 average.  He had 1 double, and drove in and scored 3 runs.  Thompson picked up 9 wins on the mound, struck out 92 batters and had an ERA of 1.67.
